The damage was suffered by taj Mahal in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh during Friday night’s storm, officials told the news agency. The marble railing of sandstone railings and the mausoleum were ruined, they said.
A couple of trees nearby were uprooted and there was A doorway damaged, ASI Superintending Archaeologist Basant Kumar Swarnkar explained. The ceiling at the mausoleum failed, he added.
In an announcement issued on Saturday in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed despair over the loss of lives because of thunderstorm and lightning at Lakhimpur Khiri, Agra, Mainpuri, and Muzaffarnagar districts. Officials are directed to offer Rs 4 lakh to the kin of all the deceased and decent care for the wounded, the statement said.
The thunderstorm has been warned off by the Weather Department.
