Biopics are in trend nowadays and after ‘Shakuntala Devi’, it is the turn of the film ‘Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl’ .. which is the story of India’s first Airforce pilot Gunjan. Who saved many lives in the 1999 war of India and Pakistan. The unique thing of the film is that, like the rest of the war-based films, Desh Bhakti’s slogan is not chanted nor Gunjan’s love affair is shown. So far, Karan Johar, who has made films on marriage, romance, youth and Indians settled abroad, is the producer of this film. This time his company and team have tried very hard to make something different.
This movie made for theatres is going to be released on Netflix. Without any drama and chilli-spice, the film throws light on the story of Gunjan becoming a pilot and the problems he handles during this time. Talking about Hollywood, a lot of movies have been made on the Airforce. In Hindi films, a lot of films have been made on Army. Only select films have been made on the Airforce such as Hindustan Ki Kasam, Vijetha, Agnipankh and Maus.
Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl ‘… Something – Something reminds me of Shashi Kapoor and Rekha’s 1982 film’ Winner ‘and Hrithik Roshan’s 2004 film’ Lakshya ‘. The film is not a sloganeering of the Kargil war, but the story of a woman officer’s success and how Gunjan is successful by dealing with him without speech.
Story of war without speech
This is the first film of director Sharan Sharma, and he has served the story of the movie excitingly. Sequences of aerial warfare are shown with much laziness. Moving away from the war sequences of ordinary films, the work of the Air Force is shown in a very but simple way in this film.
Acting of Jahnavi Kapoor
Jahnavi Kapoor has acted in the film with his own eyes. If Sridevi were alive today, she would have cared for her daughter. Gunjan’s troubles, hesitation but have managed to present a strong personality. Jahnavi’s dialogue is brief, and she tells the story of the film only by speaking very little.
Father on-screen – daughter’s unique relationship
In a film, this film has managed to show the unique relationship of a father and daughter on screen. Actor Pankaj Tripathi made Gunjan’s father and an army officer’s role memorable with his effortless acting. Like there is a scene where Gunjan has to lose weight to pass the Air Force exam, and Pankaj, i.e. Gunjan’s father, makes actress Rekha his inspiration. When Gunjan comes home frustrated, instead of giving a lecture, he takes it to the kitchen and tells the price of the flour of life.
Film on thinking about women in defence army
Gunjan’s mother’s role did not emerge. At the same time, the ideology of not understanding Gunjan’s character, that is, Angad Bedi’s character. Society tells the thinking. That thinking shows why women could not succeed in defence. When Gunjan Airforce Academy goes to Udhampur after fighting a house fight. You have to fight there to fight for being your woman. But his dream gives him the strength to fight every difficulty.
Story of obstacles to fulfil dreams
If the story is told in a few words, it is the daughter of an army family of Lucknow who wants to become a pilot since childhood. Only his father supports him in this dream. If the pilot is not able to grow that, then she applies in the air force. There is a lot of hindrance in the selection, but Gunjan reaches all over for academy training. Here too, after facing the neglect of her seniors and male colleagues, she enters the battlefield. During the Kargil War, everyone’s attitude towards Gunjan changes by bringing the trapped soldiers with understanding and courage.
Gunjan’s biographical sensitivity
You feel in the biography of Gunjan Saxena. Where in the film Shakuntala Devi, the story was turned into a gimmick. In Gunjan Saxena, the writer-director of the film has not let this sensitive person go anywhere. Actors Vineet Kumar Singh and Manav Vij have also done justice to their characters in Jahnavi’s journey to becoming an Air Force Officer.
Overall Gunjan Saxena is a neat film. Where the struggle of women and India’s air force officer’s combat in Kargil war is presented amusingly.
By the way, after Gunjan Saxena this year, more film is coming soon on the life of Air Force Officers. One is Ajay Devgn’s ‘Bhuj da pride of India’ based on Vijay Karnik’s life … while Karan Johar will also bring ‘Sher Shah’ based on the life of Captain Vikram Malhotra.
