Netflix’s creepy psychological thriller is returning for a third season, starring Penn Badgley as sinister stalker Joe Goldberg.
One of the most popular series of the platform gripped from the show’s obsessive lead along with the numerous plot twists that have played out over the past two seasons.
You’s last series saw identity and continue changes where he met with his new goal — fighter Love Quinn. But Love in series three and with season two ended with Joe?
Caroline Kepnes that writes the novels on that You is based, recently announced that she’d completed the third book in the series, so hopefully, we will be given some hints for what we ought to expect in the upcoming season.
Here’s what we know about series three, forthcoming plot twists and returning cast members.
When are You season 3’s Netflix release date?
It did not take long after season two’s December 2019 introduction for news to emerge about a further series, with the commission of the third run officially declared in January 2020.
But it is production on season three? While we do not have the answer just yet, we all do understand that the writer of the novels on which the Netflix series relies has recently completed the third book in the series.
Caroline Kepnes that wrote You and Hidden Bodies (which season two is a version of), recently shifted her Twitter bio: “Yes, I recently finished writing the third Joe Goldberg book” and declared that it’d be released on 6th April 2021.
Together with the third book from the series officially written, hopefully, that means that Netflix’s You can begin on three’s composing team’s scripts.
The series will consist of 10 episodes – as was the case for the two – and was initially set to stream in 2021, even though there’s been no news yet if the ongoing pandemic has affected that release date.
Given that production around the world has been shut down as a result of lockdown it appears likely you will join the long list of films and TV shows to be fulfilled with flaws – but we understand that as things stand Netflix is still aiming to get a 2021 release.
As usual, we’ll give you more info as we get it.
What will happen in You season 3?
You centre on stalking sociopath Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) that repeatedly develops obsessions with young girls — aspiring author Beck (Elizabeth Lail) in season one before he turned his attentions to aspiring chef Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) at the second run.
**Spoilers for You season two**
Along with the next series ended in a somewhat shocking fashion — with Love revealed to have been behind the murder of both Delilah (Carmela Zumbado) and Candace (Ambyr Childers) — it looks like Joe had met his match.
Season three looks to observe the murderous couple as well as a particular shock pregnancy. The show appears to hint that Love and Joe will try to develop into a happy family unit, though we’re sure some killing is going to get in the way.
Showrunner Patrick Gamble advised Entertainment Weekly, “The stakes are relatively high. I have numerous questions about the mother of Love, who is incredibly in the picture after the year.
“We wrote [that the finale] hoping that we’ll get the chance to tell more tales because we are really excited with all the seeds planted in the end of season two.”
And co-creator and executive producer Sera Gamble has hinted that the next run could see an even more exciting storyline, telling Cosmopolitan UK: “I shall say that we have a notion for season three which is SO fascinating that people discuss it in the [writer’s] room everyday.”
The writer has recently declared that the third book — You Love Me — was written, and also both seasons one and two were based on books written by Caroline Kepnes and is set for launch in April 2021.
According to the publication’s description, Joe is willing to start a family”even if he kills him”, and can be”done with Love”.
He leaves town for a”snug island in the Pacific Northwest”, also meets a new love interest/potential victim — librarian Mary Kay DiMarco.
“Joe will not meddle, he won’t obsess. He will win her the old fashioned way…by simply providing a shoulder to cry on, a helping hand. Over time they will both heal their wounds and begin their own happily ever after in this sleepy city,” the publication stinks.
“The trouble is…Mary Kaye already has a life. She is a mommy. She is a friend. She is…busy,” it continues. “True Love can only triumph if both people are willing to make room for the real thing. Joe cleared his decks. He’s ready. And hopefully, with his encouragement and undying support, Mary Kaye will do the right thing and make space for him.”
It is unclear if season three of You’ll follow the book’s events since the season two finale saw a harmful Love still.
You season 3 cast:
The only confirmed cast members are Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley as lovesick serial killer Joe Goldberg and Victoria Pedretti (The Haunting of Hill House) as both murderous girlfriends, Love Quinn.
We can take a stab at guessing some other stars which might return though: Love’s brother Forty Quinn (James Scully) could still play a role, Will Bettelheim (Robin Lord Taylor), whose identity Joe stole in year three could create an appearance, and there is also every opportunity Love’s buddies Lucy (Marielle Scott), Sunrise (Melanie Field) and Gabe (Charlie Barnett) will play a part.
There’s also the potential for a return for Ellie Alves, together with actor Jenna Ortega having told Insider, “I do not believe her storyline has completely run its course and I say this because the authors are so brilliant in the way that they left many possibilities .”
Some personalities certainly will not be included next time out though — having fulfilled something of a grisly end in series two — for example Delilah (Carmela Zumbado) and Candace (Ambyr Childers) that were murdered by Love.
