The eight-episode Season 2 of the cyberpunk drama, which starred Anthony Mackie, was released on February 27, followed by an anime movie on March 19.
I hear Netflix’s choice not to proceed with additional seasons has been made in April and isn’t COVID-related but stems in the streamer’s normal viewership vs. cost renewal review procedure. (Netflix lately canceled two formerly revived series, The Society and I Am Not OK With This, citing COVID-related conditions.)
Laeta Kalogridis Made modified Carbon based on the 2002 book of the same name by English writer Richard K. Morgan. Its two-season Netflix series (and a picture ) matches that of the following boundary-pushing sci-fi show, the Wachowskis’ Sense8.
Season 2 of Modified Carbon started 30 years after the epic ending of Season 1, also found Takeshi Kovacs (Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his generations-old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry).
Mackie took more than Takeshi out of Joel Kinnaman, who played the starring character in Season 1, run by Kalogridis. Alison Schapker was the Season 2 showrunner.
Modified Carbon came from Skydance Television. At Netflix, the firm also has long-running comedy Grace and Frankie and a Jane Lynch/Cyndi Lauper humor that had been heating up. On the other hand, Skydance is supporting the current Netflix struck The Old Guard.
Netflix’s sci-fi slate includes Another Life, renewed for another year, and recent entry Away.
