Fans were patiently awaiting news on the second season of dream play, which made its TV debut almost two decades ago – with Sky lately announcing that the drama will air in January 2021.
Based on director Farren Blackburn, the next season wrapped filming in late January 2020. While this meant it avoided the filming constraints of this coronavirus lockdown, it seems likely the manufacturing shutdown could have slowed post-production and editing on the collection.
The show stars Teresa Palmer (Ride Like A Girl) and Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey) in the lead roles as young historian/witch Diana Bishop and centuries-old vampire Matthew Clairmont.
Victoria celebrity Tom Hughes will soon be joining the cast to get the new episodes, playing with real-life playwright Christopher Marlowe.
Lindsay Duncan also stars in the show as Matthew’s mother Ysabeau, together with Doctor Who is Alex Kingston playing a vital role as Diana’s aunt and guardian Sarah Bishop.
Also, Louise Brealey, Owen Teale, Aisling Loftus, Greg McHugh, Elarica Johnson and Valarie Pettiford attribute from the supporting cast.
In an interview with RadioTimes, Palmer and Goode discussed the work that went into creating season one, including the strain they felt adapting such a beloved series of novels.
The show was revived for another time not long after it triggered, which will observe the A Discovery of Witches cast reprise their roles for an adventure through Elizabethan London.
Tranter stated: “We’re thrilled that A Discovery of Witches was such a hit with viewers. There was a real sense of community throughout the run as lovers new and old united together to watch each week.
“We cannot wait to continue the journey together , as the show continues to market around the world, deliver a international fanbase to these engaging and interesting characters.”
