Supreme Court Notices Mirzapur Manufacturers Over PIL Against Show

The year 2021 has not started on a good note for Amazon Prime Video. After Tandav and everything that is happening with the web series, Amazon’s Mirzapur could be in trouble too. Today, the Supreme Court issued notices to the creators of the Mirzapur web series and Amazon Prime Video about a petition filed against the show by a Mirzapur resident.

Also, there has been a demand to regulate the content of movies and web series that appear on various OTT platforms. While the petitioner’s attorney said the case may have been unsuccessful now, the CJI-led court admitted the PIL for a hearing.

Similar to how an Uttar Pradesh police team landed in Mumbai to follow up on the FIR presented in Lucknow, now Mirzapur police officers have arrived in Mumbai to investigate further an FIR against the web series, presented in Mirzapur. . According to the latest reports, three officials are at the DCP Crime Branch office in Mumbai, obtaining necessary permission and local assistance for further investigation. Once the police obtain permission, they will question everyone who was named in the FIR.

“We have filed an FIR against the Mirzapur web series and creators Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Amazon Prime Video. We are here at the Crime Branch office to obtain the necessary permission from the DCP,” said an official.

However, since the DCP was not present at their office today, the team will have to return to obtain the necessary permits.

According to a recent report, a case has been brought against the Mirzapur web series producers and Amazon Prime Video, for allegedly hurting “religious, social and regional sentiments” and “damaging social harmony”. The case was filed on Monday (January 18) in the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh based on Arvind Chaturvedi’s complaint, reports IANS. He also alleges that the series has hurt religious beliefs and feelings by focusing on abusive and illicit relationships.

The creators of Mirzapur have also been accused of tarnishing the image of Uttar Pradesh and portraying UP and Mirzapur in lousy light. Mirzapur producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Bhaumik Gondaliya, were reportedly named in the complaint.

This is not the first time Mirzapur has been arrested for something like this. Last year, a day after its launch, Mirzapur MP Anupriya Patel, in a tweet on October 24, 2020, had written that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Senior Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Mirzapur city had shown development and ‘a centre of harmony’, but the show tarnishes that image.

She wrote: “Maanneeya pradhan Mantri Ji even mukhyamantri Ji ke naitritv mein Mirzapur visit hai. Yeh samarsta ka Kendra hai. Mirzapur web series naamak ke zariye is hinsak ilaaka bataakar badnaam Kiya jaanas Raha hahi faaya. under the leadership of respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath. The city is a center of harmony. In the web series called Mirzapur, the city is shown to be violent and being vilified. Ethnic discord is also spreading through this series) (sic) “.

She further added: “Mirzapur jile ki Sansad hone ke naate meri maang hai ki iski jaanch Honi chahie aur iske viruddh kaarwahi Honi chahie (As the parliamentarian from Mirzapur, I demand that the problem be studied and action taken against it). “

Mirzapur stars Pankaj Tripathi as Akhandanand Tripathi, the mobster who runs a carpet business as a front, and owns the city. Ali Fazal plays Guddu Pandit, who attempts to seize the throne of Mirzapur from the Tripathi’s in season two. The show also stars Harshita Gaur, Shweta Tripathi, Vikrant Massey, and Divyendu Sharma.
