‘RRR’ will break Bahubali’s record before release, 348 crores of theatrical rights


Director SS Rajamouli announced in January 2021 that his next directorial RRR would be released on the big screen during Dussehra weekend on 13 October. In this film Jr., Both NTR and Ram Charan will appear on screen together. His announcement suddenly raised enthusiasm in the film business of North and South. Given that SS Rajamouli has made a comeback after the historical success of Bahubali 2, which is the biggest blockbuster film in Indian cinema. Two superstars of Telugu film industry in this period drama, Jr. NTR and Ram Charan will appear on screen together for the first time.

The makers of this film, set in the 1900s, have started receiving excessive offers from distributors across India in exchange for theatrical rights. A Business Source reveals that the total amount of offers received by the RRR team from independent distributors from various regions in the southern states is Rs 348 crore. It is going to be the biggest deal in the history of Telugu cinema, surpassing the business before the release of Bahubali 2 which grossed around Rs 215 crore from the south speaking states. The Rs 348 crore offer is for the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam versions, while the Hindi version will be released on a commission basis by AA Films (Anil Thadani). The general expectation from the Hindi version is also high, and in the end, the rights will be around 100 crores rupees. The foreign rights of RRR have already been sold to Force film for a large sum of 70 crore rupees.

The estimated revenue for the makers of RRR is more than Rs 500 crores from the sale of theatre rights worldwide just before the release of the film. It is expected that this will be the first film of SS Rajamouli’s directorial films which has earned such a huge amount before its release. Slated to release in October, RRR has received a total offer of Rs 348 crore for theatrical rights of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. NTR, along with other popular actors of Indian cinema including Ram Charan, Ajay Devgan, Alia Bhatt, Samuthirakani and Allison Doody, is directed by RRR SS Rajamouli, whose previous venture is still the most to cross 1400 crores at the box office in India alone. The big hit is an Indian film.
